K3SS Turns Human Behavior Into Progressive House on “Alibi”
Some producers start with a melody. Others begin with a drop. For K3SS, songs often begin with a simple question about human behavior.
His latest single, "Alibi," wasn't inspired by one specific relationship. Instead, it grew from repeatedly noticing the same pattern: people who avoid commitment without ever saying "no." They stay close, send late-night texts, disappear when it's convenient, promise they'll make time "soon," and always seem to have another explanation ready. Eventually, one thought kept coming back to him: everyone has an alibi.
That observation became the emotional foundation of "Alibi," a dark, sexy, and hypnotic progressive house record built around the idea that excuses often replace honesty. One of its most interesting production details pays tribute to Nelly Furtado's iconic "Say It Right." K3SS recreated the song's percussion entirely by ear before speeding it up and transforming it into the rhythmic backbone of the breakdown. While most listeners may never notice the reference, it's one of his favorite hidden details in the track.

Long before electronic music entered the picture, K3SS spent years immersed in rock and heavy metal, learning guitar, bass, piano, drums, and performing in different bands. Everything changed during EDC Las Vegas 2018, when an artist paused their set and told the crowd that just three years earlier they had been standing in exactly the same place. Those words sparked a question that would change his life forever: "Why not me?" As soon as he returned home, he committed himself to learning music production and hasn't looked back since.
His path to music has been anything but conventional. Before becoming K3SS, he spent 20 years serving as a Marine Corps officer, a career built around discipline, structure, and control. Today, he creates music driven by emotion, vulnerability, and connection. That contrast continues to shape both his artistic identity and his approach to performing. "It's not about commanding a crowd," he says. "It's about acknowledging a shared moment that already exists." Whether it's making eye contact with someone completely lost in the music or sharing a brief moment of recognition from behind the decks, those connections are the ones he remembers long after the set is over.

Outside the studio, psychology and human behavior remain some of his biggest passions. Airports, restaurants, and festivals often become places where he's quietly observing people rather than simply passing through. Those observations consistently shape his songwriting, with relationships, attraction, and emotional patterns becoming recurring themes throughout his catalog. It's also why K3SS believes music shouldn't tell people what to think. Instead, it should give them permission to feel something.
After memorable performances aboard Groove Cruise, K3SS is already looking ahead to a busy year. A new single, an upcoming EP, performances during Amsterdam Dance Event, conversations about a festival in Egypt, and plans to play in Ibiza are all on the horizon. Through it all, his goal remains unchanged: to create music that becomes part of someone's story. Whether it's a festival weekend, a late-night drive, or a moment when everything else fades away, he hopes every record gives listeners permission to stop overthinking and simply feel.
