After 35 Years Behind the Decks, Hakuei.K Keeps the Groove Alive With “Always”
For more than three decades, Hakuei.K has been part of Japan's dance music scene, first stepping behind the decks at just 16 years old. After 35 years as a DJ, that same passion continues to drive his latest release, "Always," a Beat and Bass (Bouncy Bass) record inspired by something simple but universal: the constant flow of time.
The idea for "Always" came unexpectedly. While listening to music one day, Hakuei.K found himself drawn to a bouncing bassline. That feeling became the starting point for the record, eventually evolving into a groove-driven track built around movement and rhythm. Rather than relying on complex production tricks or collaborations, he chose to let the beat and bass carry the energy from beginning to end.

Electronic music entered his life long before music production. At 16, he began working as a disco DJ, an experience that introduced him to house music after growing up listening to rockabilly. While he says it's impossible to name a single favorite artist, he has great respect for producers who consistently create hit records and continue evolving throughout their careers.
That philosophy is reflected in the way he describes his own sound: beat, groove, and stylish. Interestingly, despite spending most of his life around music, Hakuei.K rarely listens to it outside of producing or DJing. When he's away from the studio or the booth, he's usually relaxing at home with his dog, giving himself time to disconnect before returning to music with a fresh perspective.

Experience has also shaped the way he performs. Rather than relying on words, Hakuei.K prefers communicating through movement, expressing himself with his body while allowing the music to speak for him. Looking ahead, one dream remains unchanged: performing at Tomorrowland, a festival he simply describes as one he loves. He's also closely following the development of Tomorrowland's planned expansion into Thailand, hoping to see the event continue reaching new parts of the world.
Outside of music, Hakuei.K is equally passionate about golf, where he currently plays to an impressive handicap of 1. The patience and consistency required in the sport closely mirror the mindset that has guided his career as both a DJ and producer. His personal philosophy is equally straightforward: stay true to your own core values, no matter how much the industry changes around you.
Like any DJ with decades of experience, he has collected plenty of unforgettable memories. One of the funniest happened after turning the volume up a little too much during a club performance, causing the amplifier to shut down completely. Moments like that have become part of a career spanning more than three decades behind the decks.
With "Always," Hakuei.K hopes listeners experience the same feeling that has kept him connected to dance music for so many years: the sensation of being on a club dancefloor, completely immersed in the groove. And for anyone discovering his music for the first time, he simply hopes they'll get to know Hakuei.K, a Japanese house DJ and producer who continues doing what he loves after 35 years behind the decks.
