Eazy Ej Wants You to Forget Everything Else on “Don’t Wake Up”

There is no complicated backstory behind “Don’t Wake Up.” Eazy Ej built the track around a much simpler idea: make something fun, catchy and immediate enough that listeners can forget about everything else for a few minutes. Sitting firmly in bass house with attitude, the record was created to feel at home in today’s electronic music landscape while still being something he would genuinely want to play himself.

That instinct comes from spending years behind the decks. Growing up listening to Euro and Trance, he was already drawn to electronic music, but DJing eventually pushed him toward production. After enough time playing other people’s records, making his own became a way to build tracks specifically for his sets, with the bigger ambition of eventually hearing other DJs around the world play them too.

“Don’t Wake Up” follows that mentality rather than relying on a specific studio trick or collaboration. A lot of work went into keeping the track energetic, driving and catchy from beginning to end, three words that also summarize the wider direction of his sound. James Hype has been a major influence, particularly for the creativity and energy he brings both behind the decks and into his productions.

The dancefloor has shaped more than just the music. In Toronto, Eazy Ej also organizes electronic music events, and building his own nights has become one of the most important parts of his development. Creating opportunities for DJs and producers and bringing people together locally has become just as rewarding to him as releasing records. It has also taught him one practical lesson: live events rarely go exactly according to plan, so being prepared for anything matters.

That crowd-first mentality continues when he performs. Eye contact, smiles and hand gestures are part of making the audience feel involved rather than separated from the DJ booth. His approach is to make it feel like he is simply dancing there with everyone else, putting the people on the floor before himself. The ultimate dream stage remains Tomorrowland, which he simply describes as the best place in the world.

His current listening remains rooted heavily in Tech House and Bass House, while more original music is already in development alongside several upcoming Toronto events. Rather than rushing toward one fixed destination, his philosophy is built around consistency: keep learning, keep showing up and continue making records he would personally want in his own sets.

That makes “Don’t Wake Up” a straightforward introduction to what matters most in the project right now. It does not ask listeners to decode a larger story or search for a hidden meaning. For a few minutes, the goal is simply to turn everything else off, stay in the moment and enjoy the record.
