ZEPH Strips It Back on “Gangsta,” Letting the Groove Do the Talking

Sometimes the most effective records aren't the busiest ones. For ZEPH, the goal behind "Gangsta" was never to add more elements, but to create a track that delivers maximum impact with minimal ingredients. Released on Warbeats Records, the record blends raw minimal tech grooves, strict basslines, and a hypnotic vocal into a peak-time weapon designed to catch a crowd's attention while remaining memorable long after the set ends.

Reaching that point took patience. Rather than continuously layering new sounds, ZEPH spent multiple versions refining the groove and removing anything that didn't serve the record. Every revision focused on making the rhythm tighter, the low end cleaner, and the overall energy more effective. The vocal became the centerpiece, while the kick, bassline, and drums were carefully balanced to create space and allow the groove to do most of the storytelling.

Music wasn't always part of the plan. During the COVID pandemic, ZEPH picked up DJing after growing tired of spending hours playing video games. What started as a new hobby quickly turned into a passion, eventually leading him into music production as a way to create original records he could play in his own sets. Since then, the studio has become a constant part of his life. Even when he's away from it, he's usually collecting ideas, listening for inspiration, or thinking about what comes next.

Artists like Skrillex, deadmau5, and Boys Noize have all influenced the way he approaches electronic music, each bringing a different perspective on creativity and originality. More recently, he's been digging through records from artists such as Lithe, Clave Especial, and other rising producers pushing the minimal tech and deep groove sound. Those influences continue to shape a style he describes in three words: raw, hypnotic, and tech-driven.

Performing has reinforced that vision. Headlining recent shows in Texas, hundreds of miles from home, reminded ZEPH that great music can travel anywhere. Performances in Las Vegas and across North America have continued building that confidence, while every set becomes an opportunity to read the room, adjust the energy in real time, and connect with people long after the music stops. The conversations and feedback after each show remain some of his biggest sources of motivation.

Outside of music, fitness and traveling help keep him grounded while exposing him to new cultures, artists, and ideas that naturally find their way back into the studio. He's already looking ahead to the next chapter, with more releases planned throughout the year, including an upcoming collaboration with fellow Texas artist MONTY on Obsessions Records.

With "Gangsta," ZEPH hopes listeners experience the same feeling that inspired the record from the very beginning: losing themselves in the groove. Whether it's through a massive club sound system or a pair of headphones, the goal is simple. Make people move, leave a lasting impression, and keep them coming back for one more listen.
