John Summit Swaps the DJ Booth for a Grueling Ibiza Coastal Cleanup

John Summit is known for his high-energy marathons behind the decks, but his latest endurance test on the White Isle happened far from the neon lights of Hï Ibiza. The American house music star recently traded his headphones for trash bags, leading a grueling coastal cleanup that saw 80kg of plastic and marine waste removed from one of the island's most inaccessible locations.

A Different Kind of Afters

Working alongside Hike Station and a crew of 30 volunteers, Summit hit a remote cove that is notoriously difficult to reach. This wasn't a ceremonial photo op; the mission required a one-hour descent down steep terrain just to reach the shoreline. Once there, the team spent 90 minutes scouring the beach for microplastics, discarded fishing gear, and general debris that had washed ashore.

The hardest part of the day came after the bags were filled. The group had to haul the 80kg of waste back up the cliffs, climbing 300 meters of elevation in the heavy June heat.

Ibiza’s ecosystem faces massive pressure every summer as hundreds of thousands of clubbers descend on its shores. While the nightlife industry drives the island’s economy, the environmental footprint is a constant concern for locals. Summit’s participation brings a massive spotlight to grassroots conservation efforts that often go unnoticed by the international touring circuit.

The operation was supported by the Ajuntament de Sant Antoni, Councillor Pepita Torres Costa, and UTE Portmany, ensuring the collected waste was properly processed and removed from the site. It’s a move that aligns with a growing trend of DJs taking accountability for the destinations that host them year-round.

Summit has become a fixture of the Ibiza season, but this trek through the dirt proves he’s interested in more than just the VIP booth.
