How a Garage Session Became KNWN & SPACEWALK's "New Girl"

Sometimes the best records aren't overplanned. "New Girl" came together in a single day after KNWN linked up with SPACEWALK and vocalist Hutty inside a garage studio with one goal in mind: create the soundtrack to summer. The chemistry clicked almost instantly, blending indie melodies, house grooves, and carefree energy into what the trio describes as a summer indie tech anthem.

While the session happened quickly, the influences behind the record had been years in the making.
KNWN entered electronic music after learning to DJ in college, carrying influences from Getter, deadmau5, and even Michael Jackson. Before shifting toward house music, he also spent years producing dubstep, something that still shows through in the attitude and low-end energy of his productions.

SPACEWALK, who originally started as a filmmaker before producing music for his own videos, brought a nostalgic, club-driven approach inspired by artists like Mochakk, Darius, Men I Trust, and Deftones.

The collaboration found its identity by balancing those worlds. Hutty's indie-inspired vocals established the warm, summer atmosphere, while subtle production details, including an expressive reverb and delay treatment on the lead synth, gave the drop its distinctive character. Rather than relying on complexity, the record succeeds by letting groove, melody, and atmosphere work together naturally.

For both artists, electronic music has been shaped by defining live experiences. SPACEWALK points to Mochakk b2b Vintage Culture at Do LaB during Coachella weekend in 2023 as the moment that completely changed his perspective on what dance music could be. KNWN traces his own turning point back to seeing SLANDER perform at the NOS Events Center in 2018. Those experiences continue to influence how each artist approaches the dancefloor today, with both believing genuine connection comes from eye contact, movement, and sharing energy with the crowd rather than simply performing.

Outside music, their personalities couldn't be more different. KNWN proudly admits that Pokémon remains one of his biggest passions, while SPACEWALK still spends time filmmaking, surfing, and exploring the outdoors. Yet both share the same creative philosophy: make music that feels authentic to their own influences rather than following expectations.

With KNWN preparing for a performance at Lollapalooza through the Liquid I.V. activation and SPACEWALK continuing to develop his signature club-driven nostalgic sound, "New Girl" arrives as the first chapter of what both artists hope will be an exciting summer. More than anything, they want listeners to feel nostalgic, free, full of adrenaline, and ready to make new memories with the windows down and the music turned up.
