GRiZ releases new album ‘Future Funk Volume 1’ featuring Big Gigantic collaboration “Rump Shaker”
The highly anticipated project arrives as GRiZ continues one of the biggest comeback runs in electronic music
June 5, 2026 GRiZ has officially released his long-awaited new album, Future Funk Volume 1, a sprawling, groove-driven body of work that captures the full spectrum of his current creative identity. Blending soulful funk, explosive bass music, psychedelic experimentation, and emotional release, the project arrives as the clearest reflection yet of the sound and vision he has been building toward since his return.
Leading the release is “Rump Shaker,” a long-awaited reunion between GRiZ and Big Gigantic. More than a decade after their fan-favorite collaboration “Good Times Roll” amassed over 48 million Spotify streams, the two funk-forward bass powerhouses reconnect for a track that feels equally nostalgic and future-facing.
Peanut butter and jelly. Saxophone and bass. GRiZ and Big Gigantic. Some things just belong together.

Built around explosive brass work, groove-heavy production, and festival-sized energy, “Rump Shaker” perfectly sets the tone for the album while highlighting the chemistry that made the pair’s original collaboration such a fan favorite.
Across Future Funk Volume 1, GRiZ embraces the elements that have defined his career saxophone-driven melodies, hip-hop influences, uplifting energy, and immersive sound design while simultaneously pushing deeper into heavier bass territory, psychedelic textures, and freer experimentation.
The album follows a remarkable creative streak that saw GRiZ release 38 songs in just over a year, including the surprise GEMiNI EP, Sidequest Vol. 1 Mixtape, and collaborations with artists such as Wooli, Flowdan, Tape B, Gryffin, Levity, and more. Rather than separating genres into distinct lanes, Future Funk Volume 1 embraces collision, allowing funk grooves, emotional catharsis, bass music chaos, and cinematic tension to coexist within the same universe.
At its core, the album reflects a renewed commitment to instinct and feeling. Written during a period of creative discovery, the project captures GRiZ operating without hesitation, allowing inspiration, experimentation, and live energy to shape the music organically.
The release arrives amid one of the most successful periods of GRiZ’s career. Following his highly celebrated return in 2025, he quickly reestablished himself as one of dance music’s most beloved performers and community builders. His inaugural Seven Stars Festival sold out immediately, drawing more than 22,000 fans to Virginia for an immersive, artist-curated experience rooted in bass music, positivity, and connection.

That momentum has continued through headline performances, surprise appearances, and major festival bookings, including a surprise Do Lab set at Coachella, sold-out arena shows in Chicago and the Bay Area, GRIZTRONICS weekends with Subtronics at The Gorge, and upcoming appearances at Bonnaroo, Electric Forest, Elements, and Seven Stars Festival later this year.
Throughout the album, GRiZ reinforces the philosophy that has always separated him from his peers: dance music should feel human. Whether through explosive bass drops, soulful saxophone melodies, psychedelic experimentation, or moments of pure emotional uplift, Future Funk Volume 1 consistently prioritizes connection over convention.
For GRiZ, funk has never simply been a genre it’s a mindset. And on Future Funk Volume 1, that mindset reaches its fullest realization yet.
