DJ ICON Unveils “Same Man,” a High-Energy Club Record Built for the Mainstage
DJ ICON's latest release, "Same Man," began with an unexpected moment while traveling from Boston to Miami in March. While listening to an Afro House remix of the classic track on Spotify, he found himself drawn to the synth work. But rather than simply enjoying what he heard, he immediately started imagining how he would approach it himself. A few days after returning home, he opened a new project and began creating his own version, one built around high-energy club moments and designed for today's dancefloors.
More than just a reinterpretation, "Same Man" reflects the creative philosophy that has shaped DJ ICON's music from the beginning. He doesn't believe in chasing one particular sound or following trends. Instead, he pulls inspiration from different genres and reshapes those ideas into something that feels uniquely his own. If there's one phrase that defines his approach, it's "House with sazón," his way of blending house music with flavor, international influences, and the kind of energy built for mainstage crowds.
That mindset also reflects his own journey. After performing more than 180 shows as an open-format DJ, DJ ICON realized there was only so far he could go playing other people's music. Building a lasting career meant creating records that represented his own identity. "Same Man" marks that turning point, becoming one of the clearest examples yet of the sound he's been working toward.
Although music had always been part of his life, one record completely changed his trajectory. Hearing Calvin Harris' "Awooga" inspired him to become a DJ, while producing became the next step years later. Joining the Purari Production Academy gave him the structure, accountability, and creative environment to consistently finish music and continue refining his own artistic voice.
That voice continues to evolve through artists who refuse to play it safe. From Chris Lake and Skrillex to Odd Mob, RØZ, and Tainy, DJ ICON admires producers who experiment, combine different musical worlds, and challenge what electronic music can sound like. Rather than copying those influences, he uses them as inspiration to keep pushing his own productions forward.
That evolution is already beginning to gain attention. Alongside "Same Man," his collaboration with Jus Run, "Whatever Happens," has been building strong momentum, while his productions have earned support from artists including Laidback Luke, Tujamo, Tini Gessler, Agents of Time, and more. With additional collaborations arriving over the coming weeks, he continues building on that momentum release after release.
Away from music, the producer describes himself as surprisingly reserved, preferring a small circle and crediting his family with keeping him grounded. Running and weight training have also become an important part of his routine, helping him stay balanced between life on the road and long hours in the studio.
The same mindset carries into every performance. Rather than following a fixed formula, DJ ICON constantly scans the room, watching how people respond before deciding where to take the energy next. Blending international influences with house music allows him to keep crowds guessing, whether he's playing a Fourth of July rooftop party in Washington, D.C., or returning to Boston, a city he proudly considers his home market through venues like Caveau.
Looking ahead, he has no shortage of ambitions. Ultra Miami remains the festival he dreams of playing most, partly because he considers Miami his second home, while Hï Ibiza stands as another milestone he's determined to reach. Before then, upcoming performances in Iowa, Alabama, Boston, and Dallas will keep him on the road as he continues introducing his music to new audiences.
"Same Man" was always meant to capture the biggest moments of a night out. It's the kind of record he imagines people playing while getting ready with friends before heading out, then hearing again later when the room reaches its highest energy. Guided by a philosophy of living in the moment and practicing gratitude, he sees this release as another step toward a much bigger vision. His message to both longtime supporters and first-time listeners is simple: "Get ready for a ride. We're going worldwide.
