SoDown Blends Vintage Film and Heavy Bass on New Album 'Scenes of Consciousness'

Colorado-based producer and multi-instrumentalist SoDown is preparing to bridge the gap between vintage cinema and modern sound systems with his upcoming album, Scenes of Consciousness. Set for release on Friday, October 16th, the project serves as a conceptual exploration of life viewed through a camera lens, blending his signature bass-heavy production with a lifetime of film influence.

Known for his ability to weave live saxophone and funk into heavy dubstep, SoDown uses this LP to experiment with nostalgic sampling. The album is structured like a film, utilizing snippets of jazz, soul, doo-wop, and hip-hop to create a narrative about memory and perspective. From the sound of a physical film projector in the intro track "Consciousness" to the soulful grit of "Who Knows," the project feels more like a curated soundtrack than a standard electronic record.

A Cinematic Approach to Bass Music

The album features a heavy-hitting list of collaborators, including AHEE, Shlump, and Steller. "H U M A N," a collaboration with Shlump, takes a sci-fi turn by sampling Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, layering interstellar wubs over psychedelic textures. Meanwhile, "Hit The Rhythm" with AHEE flips the script, starting with the romantic atmosphere of a 1950s black-and-white film before shattering the peace with high-octane bass house.

SoDown also pays homage to hip-hop and pop culture throughout the tracklist. "Gold (Can’t Hold Me Down)" pulls from Ray Charles and N.W.A, even sneaking in a nod to Austin Powers. On "L I V I N," he teams up with Oddly Eazy to blend vocal samples from Tupac and The Notorious B.I.G. with lines from the cult classic film Dazed and Confused.

"‘Scenes of Consciousness’ is inspired by the idea of watching our lives like a movie, with each scene representing a different moment in the human experience," SoDown explained. "Through samples and inspiration drawn from stories in film, music, and culture, the album explores life from the perspective of the observer."

From the Studio to the Mission Ballroom

The album arrives in the middle of a massive 20+ date North American tour. The run features a rotating cast of support including Manic Focus, WonkyWilla, Phyphr, and Green Matter, hitting major markets from Los Angeles to Boston. Fans can pre-save the album here.

Everything culminates on February 13, 2027, with a homecoming headline show at Denver’s Mission Ballroom. Dubbed "The SoDown Picture Show," the event is being billed as his most ambitious production to date, featuring live instrumentation, a full marching band, and a visual experience designed to mirror the album’s cinematic themes.

For SoDown, the project is about more than just the music—it's about presence. Whether he's hosting his "GetDown" community events or performing at festivals like Coachella and Lost Lands, the goal remains the same: finding a way to stay present in the moment.
