Mayan Warrior Art Car Will Not Appear at Burning Man 2026

Mayan Warrior will not bring its iconic art car to Burning Man 2026, marking a major change for one of the festival’s most recognizable longtime fixtures.

The Mexico City-born collective confirmed the news in a statement shared on Instagram, revealing that its presence in Black Rock City this year will instead center around a new camp called Discosmos.

“While our events continue, our energy on The Playa this year is shifting toward something equally close to our hearts: Art,” the collective wrote. The team said Discosmos, located at 2 & J, will be dedicated to creativity, art installations and music.

The decision is particularly notable given Mayan Warrior’s deep history with Burning Man. Since first arriving on the Playa in 2011, the project has evolved into one of the event’s most celebrated art cars, combining large-scale production, immersive visuals and electronic music performances from artists including Carl Cox, Keinemusik and Monolink.

Its story took a dramatic turn in April 2023 when the original Mayan Warrior vehicle was destroyed in a fire. Rather than ending the project, the collective embarked on an ambitious rebuild, eventually unveiling Galaxyer, a completely redesigned art car reportedly costing nearly $3 million.

Galaxyer made its Burning Man debut in 2024, introducing a futuristic design inspired by Mayan mythology alongside upgraded lasers, sound systems and large-scale visual production. The vehicle represented a new chapter for the collective following the loss of its original art car.

For now, Mayan Warrior has not publicly explained why Galaxyer will remain off the Playa in 2026. The announcement does not suggest the project itself is slowing down, however. The collective emphasized that its events will continue while its Burning Man presence takes on a different creative direction.

The news comes shortly after Mayan Warrior brought its full-scale art car experience to Chicago’s Union Park in July, marking the project’s first appearance in the city and another step in its continued expansion beyond Black Rock City.

Instead of returning with Galaxyer for Burning Man’s 40th anniversary edition, the collective will use Discosmos to explore a more installation-driven and community-focused side of its identity.

Burning Man 2026 is scheduled to take place from August 30 through September 7 in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert.
