EDM festivals to have on your radar this September

September is one of the busiest months of the 2026 electronic music calendar in the United States. From four days of house and techno in Chicago to massive bass gatherings in Ohio, week-long camping experiences in Kansas and waterfront festivals in California, there is something happening almost every weekend.

To make planning easier, EDM Army organized this guide chronologically, starting with the first festivals of September and working through the final weekend of the month. Whether you are into house, techno, dubstep, hard dance, drum & bass or melodic electronic music, these are 14 festivals worth having on your radar.

1. ARC Music Festival

Dates: September 4–7, 2026
Location: Union Park — Chicago, Illinois
Music: House, techno and electronic music

Chicago kicks off Labor Day weekend with one of the biggest house and techno events in the country. ARC Music Festival returns to Union Park from September 4 through 7 and expands to four days in 2026, giving fans an entire long weekend dedicated to dance music.

ARC has always leaned heavily into Chicago's history as the birthplace of house music, combining international house and techno artists with a festival experience that feels closely connected to the city itself. The main event runs from 2 PM to 10 PM each day and is 18+.

The experience also extends beyond Union Park through ARC After Dark, with official parties continuing across Chicago clubs after the festival ends each night.

Why it’s on our radar: If house and techno are your priority, ARC is one of the strongest destinations on the entire September calendar.

2. North Coast Music Festival

Dates: September 4–6, 2026
Location: SeatGeek Stadium — Bridgeview, Illinois
Music: Bass, house, techno, melodic and mainstream electronic music

At almost the exact same time as ARC, another huge electronic festival takes over the Chicago area. North Coast Music Festival celebrates its 16th edition from September 4–6 at the SeatGeek Stadium campus in Bridgeview, roughly 30 minutes outside downtown Chicago.

North Coast offers a much broader electronic lineup than ARC. The 2026 bill includes FISHER, ILLENIUM, GRiZ, Gryffin, Porter Robinson DJ Set, Chris Lorenzo, Ganja White Night, SLANDER, Wooli, Tape B, Lilly Palmer, Sammy Virji, ALLEYCVT and more.

The venue also gives North Coast room for multiple large-scale environments, with six stages spread throughout the stadium campus.

Why it’s on our radar: One of September's best options for groups whose music tastes range from bass and melodic EDM to house and techno.

3. Wasteland

Dates: September 4–5, 2026
Location: NOS Event Center — San Bernardino, California
Music: Hardstyle, rawstyle, hardcore, hard house and hard techno

California starts September on the harder side. Insomniac's Wasteland returns to the NOS Event Center on September 4 and 5 for its 11th edition, this time introducing a new three-stage setup.

The lineup moves across nearly every corner of hard dance, with artists including Angerfist, Rooler, Sub Zero Project, Darren Styles, DJ Isaac, Vertile, Dual Damage, Mad Dog and Lil Texas B2B Yosuf.

Unlike many of the more genre-diverse festivals on this list, Wasteland knows exactly what it is. This is two days built around higher BPMs, harder kicks and some of the most intense sounds in electronic music.

Why it’s on our radar: Probably the clearest choice in September for dedicated hard dance fans.

4. Dancefestopia

Dates: September 7–13, 2026
Location: Wildwood Outdoor Education Center — La Cygne, Kansas, outside Kansas City
Music: Bass, dubstep and experimental electronic music

Dancefestopia is not just a weekend festival. The independently operated event runs for seven days, from September 7 through 13, at the Wildwood Outdoor Education Center outside Kansas City.

The festival has grown into a full camping destination with more than 250 artists and five stages, combining music with camping, art and activities throughout the week.

Its 2026 schedule is particularly strong for bass fans, with names including GRiZ, Excision, Zeds Dead, LSDREAM, Crankdat, Ray Volpe, Sullivan King, ALLEYCVT, REAPER and INZO appearing throughout the week.

Why it’s on our radar: If three festival days are not enough for you, Dancefestopia basically turns an entire week into one long bass-music escape.

5. Breakaway Philadelphia

Dates: September 11–12, 2026
Location: Festival Grounds at Subaru Park — Chester, Pennsylvania
Music: EDM, house and bass

Breakaway continues its massive 2026 tour with a stop in the Philadelphia area on September 11 and 12. The festival takes place at the grounds surrounding Subaru Park in Chester, Pennsylvania.

The lineup brings together several different corners of contemporary EDM, including Tiësto, Marshmello, ISOxo, SOFI TUKKER, KREAM, Layton Giordani, Deathpact, ARMNHMR, Whethan and Malaa's ALTER EGO project.

Both days are scheduled from 4 PM until midnight, with the main festival operating as an 18+ event.

Why it’s on our radar: A compact two-day festival with recognizable names across both the mainstream and heavier sides of dance music.

6. Global Dance Festival

Dates: September 11–12, 2026
Location: LVC Festival Grounds — Denver, Colorado

One of Colorado's longest-running electronic music festivals enters a new chapter in 2026. Global Dance Festival moves to the LVC Festival Grounds in Denver for September 11 and 12, combining indoor and outdoor spaces at its new home.

The 2026 lineup is packed with major names, including Tiësto, Kygo, Chris Lake, Chris Lorenzo, Subtronics, SLANDER, SVDDEN DEATH, NGHTMRE, Timmy Trumpet, Kai Wachi, TroyBoi, SIDEPIECE and Virtual Riot B2B YDG.

Programming runs from 4 PM to midnight on both days and also includes art installations, performers and redesigned stages.

Why it’s on our radar: Few September festivals cover this much ground between house, melodic EDM and heavy bass in just two days.

7. Goldrush Music Festival

Dates: September 11–12, 2026
Location: Rawhide — Chandler, Arizona
Music: EDM, progressive house, house and bass

Arizona gets one of September's most stacked lineups with Goldrush: Midnight Riders, returning to Rawhide in Chandler on September 11 and 12.

The four headliners alone make this one notable: Martin Garrix, Alesso, deadmau5 and GRiZ. The supporting lineup includes AC Slater, ALLEYCVT, Boogie T, Green Velvet, Deathpact, Delta Heavy, Ray Volpe, Sullivan King, Valentino Khan, It's Murph and more.

Goldrush runs deep into the night, with festival hours listed from 6 PM until 2 AM. The event is 18+.

Why it’s on our radar: Martin Garrix, Alesso, deadmau5 and GRiZ on the same festival weekend is a pretty convincing argument.

8. Lost Lands

Dates: September 18–20, 2026
Location: Legend Valley — Thornville, Ohio
Music: Dubstep and bass music

By the middle of September, attention shifts to Ohio.

Excision's Lost Lands returns to Legend Valley from September 18 through 20 for its ninth edition, once again bringing one of the world's largest bass-music communities together in Thornville.

For campers, the experience can begin even earlier. Campgrounds open on Tuesday, September 15, while the traditional Lost Lands pre-party takes place inside the venue on Thursday, September 17 for fans with eligible early-entry passes.

Lost Lands has become much more than another festival date on the bass calendar. For dubstep fans, it has developed into an annual pilgrimage built around huge production, camping and an entire weekend dedicated to bass culture.

Why it’s on our radar: If bass music is your world, this is probably the biggest September date on your calendar.

9. Experts Only Festival

Dates: September 19–20, 2026
Location: Randall's Island Park — New York City
Music: House, techno and electronic music

Following its sold-out debut in 2025, John Summit's Experts Only Festival returns to Randall's Island Park for its second edition on September 19 and 20.

Summit once again curates the weekend and performs at the event, with a lineup featuring GRiZ, Prospa, Subtronics, Adam Ten B2B Max Styler, Will Clarke, Korolova, Partiboi69, Taiki Nulight, Devault, LYNY and more.

The festival spreads its programming across three stages and has quickly become another major destination for electronic music in New York.

Why it’s on our radar: A major dance festival on Randall's Island with John Summit curating the entire experience is a strong addition to NYC's festival calendar.

10. Nocturnal Wonderland

Dates: September 19–20, 2026
Location: Glen Helen Regional Park — San Bernardino, California
Music: Bass, house, drum & bass, melodic and electronic music

While New York gets Experts Only, Southern California gets another major festival on the same weekend.

Insomniac's Nocturnal Wonderland returns September 19 and 20, with music running from 3 PM until midnight each day.

The lineup is massive and unusually diverse, moving between deadmau5, ILLENIUM, SVDDEN DEATH, NGHTMRE, Green Velvet, James Hype, Seven Lions, R3HAB, SIDEPIECE, Walker & Royce, Hedex, Hybrid Minds, TroyBoi and dozens more.

Nocturnal also remains one of the festival options on this list where camping can become a major part of the overall weekend rather than simply a place to sleep.

Why it’s on our radar: One of the broadest lineups of September, with everything from house and melodic EDM to dubstep and drum & bass.

11. Breakaway Carolina

Dates: September 25–26, 2026
Location: zMAX Dragway at Charlotte Motor Speedway — Concord, North Carolina
Music: House, EDM and bass

Breakaway makes its second September appearance on this list with Breakaway Carolina, taking place September 25 and 26 at zMAX Dragway at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the Charlotte area.

The lineup is particularly strong on the house side, with Chris Lake, Cloonee B2B Chris Lorenzo, KETTAMA, Beltran, Cassian and J. Worra, while Tiësto, San Holo, Kai Wachi, Hamdi, TroyBoi, What So Not and Daily Bread add more variety.

Both days run from 3 PM until 11 PM, and the main festival is 18+.

Why it’s on our radar: One of the strongest house-heavy Breakaway lineups of the year without completely abandoning bass and crossover EDM.

12. CRSSD Festival

Dates: September 26–27, 2026
Location: Waterfront Park — San Diego, California

Age: 21+

September's final weekend gives house and techno fans a serious dilemma in California.

CRSSD Festival returns to Waterfront Park in downtown San Diego on September 26 and 27, continuing its familiar combination of house, techno and alternative electronic music along the city's waterfront.

The 2026 lineup includes a standout Chris Lake B2B Disclosure performance alongside Mochakk, KETTAMA, Layton Giordani, Sonny Fodera, I Hate Models, 999999999, Boys Noize, Marlon Hoffstadt, VTSS, Groove Armada DJ Set, Prospa and Skepta's MÁS TIEMPO.

Doors open at noon on both days, and CRSSD remains a strictly 21+ festival.

Why it’s on our radar: Chris Lake B2B Disclosure alone makes this one of the most interesting house bookings of the month.

13. Portola Music Festival

Dates: September 26–27, 2026
Location: Pier 80 — San Francisco, California
Music: Electronic, dance and alternative club music
Age: 21+

About 500 miles north of CRSSD, San Francisco hosts another major electronic weekend at the exact same time.

Portola Music Festival returns to Pier 80 on Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27. Doors open at 1 PM each day, and the festival is strictly 21+.

Portola occupies a slightly different space from the traditional American EDM festival. Its programming connects dance music with underground club culture, live electronic acts and alternative sounds, all inside the industrial Pier 80 setting.

The festival has also expanded beyond the main weekend through Portola Week, with official pre-parties, afterparties and additional events taking place around San Francisco.

Why it’s on our radar: Portola has become one of the most distinctive electronic festival experiences in the U.S., particularly for fans looking beyond the traditional mainstage formula.

14. WAKAAN Music Festival

Pre-Party: September 30, 2026
Main Festival: October 1–3, 2026
Location: Mulberry Mountain — Ozark, Arkansas
Music: Bass and experimental electronic music
Age: 18+

We're including WAKAAN with one important clarification: most of the festival technically happens in October.

The WAKAAN experience begins on Wednesday, September 30, when early-arrival pass holders can enter Mulberry Mountain and attend the official pre-party. The main festival then runs from Thursday, October 1 through Saturday, October 3.

Located on Mulberry Mountain near Ozark, Arkansas, WAKAAN has established its identity around bass and experimental electronic music, with a camping-focused format that keeps fans on the mountain for several days. Music is scheduled from the afternoon until just after sunrise during the main festival days.

So while WAKAAN is technically an October festival, anyone attending will likely start the trip—and potentially the party—on the final day of September.

September 2026 Is Basically One Long Festival Run

Looking at the calendar makes one thing obvious: there is almost no quiet weekend in September.

Labor Day weekend alone brings ARC, North Coast and Wasteland. One week later, fans have to choose between Dancefestopia, Breakaway Philadelphia, Global Dance Festival and Goldrush.

Then September 18–20 brings another major collision, with Lost Lands, Experts Only and Nocturnal Wonderland all happening during the same weekend.

And the month finishes with Breakaway Carolina, CRSSD and Portola on September 25–27 before WAKAAN's pre-party begins September 30 and carries the festival calendar directly into October.

That means the real question for electronic music fans this September might not be whether there is a festival worth attending, but which one you are willing to miss.
