SPEEDSHIFT Gives a Pop Classic a Heavy Bass Makeover on “OUT OF MY HEAD”
Some ideas don't begin in the studio. SPEEDSHIFT's latest single, "OUT OF MY HEAD" was born inside an airport shortly after a performance at Skyway Theatre. Reflecting on his set while waiting for his flight, he realized something was missing. Although he primarily performs original music, he wanted to give crowds more moments they could instantly recognize. That thought became the foundation for a new project built around one of pop music's most unforgettable hooks.
Inspired by Kylie Minogue's iconic "Can't Get You Out Of My Head," SPEEDSHIFT transforms the familiar vocal into something entirely different. Rather than creating a straightforward remix, "OUT OF MY HEAD" reimagines the classic through a combination of aggressive dubstep, hardstyle influences, and modern bass production. Even some of the track's growls were created by stretching and manipulating the original vocal, turning recognizable melodies into entirely new sound design elements.

Electronic music has been part of SPEEDSHIFT's life since childhood. At just seven years old, his aunt introduced him to Justice, planting the first seed of curiosity. A few years later, hearing Skrillex completely changed everything. Inspired by the explosion of dubstep, he convinced his grandmother to buy him Native Instruments Massive, one of electronic music's most iconic synthesizers. Ironically, he owned the software before he even had a proper DAW, spending years experimenting with sound design before eventually learning the craft of songwriting.
While Skrillex remains his biggest influence, his musical palette stretches far beyond bass music. Artists like Porter Robinson, Zomboy, Getter, ZZ Top, Led Zeppelin, and Ozzy Osbourne have all helped shape a sound he describes as energetic, raw, and experimental. He also credits fellow producers Chassi, Mikesh!ft, Doc Glock, and DOIL as constant sources of inspiration throughout his creative journey.

The name SPEEDSHIFT comes from another lifelong passion entirely. Before dedicating himself fully to music, he spent years competing in Junior Dragster racing with his family. When racing came to an end, all of that competitive energy shifted into music, ultimately inspiring both his artist name and the high-octane identity behind every release. Today, even while running a business selling tractors, lawnmowers, and outdoor equipment, he continues balancing entrepreneurship with an ever-growing catalog of bass music.
Recent performances have marked major milestones along the way. Sharing his music at Lost Lands opened new opportunities, while hearing his own productions played alongside Chassi at EDC Las Vegas fulfilled a childhood dream that began years earlier while watching Skrillex perform at Austin City Limits, his very first festival. Looking ahead, SPEEDSHIFT hopes one day to return to that same stage as the artist inspiring the next generation of fans.
With "OUT OF MY HEAD", SPEEDSHIFT isn't simply revisiting a pop classic. He's challenging expectations by taking a song millions already know and rebuilding it into a modern festival weapon. The goal is exactly what he hopes listeners experience: nostalgia with a twist.
