Police Identify Victim in Burning Man’s First Suspected Homicide
Authorities have confirmed the identity of the man killed in what is believed to be the first homicide in Burning Man’s history. The victim has been identified as 37-year-old Vadim Kruglov, a Russian national who had been living in the United States.
Kruglov was reported missing for four days before friends and members of the community raised alarms. His friend Sofiia Shcherbakova shared on Instagram that his tent and belongings were left at camp but he never returned. She later confirmed that police officially notified her of his passing on the night of September 2.
According to those who knew him, Kruglov was an active member of the Burning Man community, helping to run a theme camp and contributing to the construction of the Mirror Heart art installation. “He poured his soul into our community,” wrote Shcherbakova, remembering him as generous and dedicated.
Investigation Underway
Eyewitness reports state that the incident took place inside a large tent near 8:30 and I — an open camping zone near the edge of Black Rock City. Attendees reported hearing a loud argument shortly before Kruglov’s body was discovered.
Police were called to the scene and pronounced him dead upon arrival. The Pershing County Sheriff’s Office has yet to release further details but is preparing an official statement. The suspect in the case remains at large.
This tragedy has sent shockwaves through the Burning Man community, known for its culture of radical inclusion, creativity, and peace.
