Man Airlifted from Burning Man After Electrocution During Storm

A man attending Burning Man 2025 was airlifted to a trauma center on Tuesday night after reportedly being electrocuted during a rainstorm at the event’s site in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert.

According to Pershing County Sheriff Jerry Allen, his office confirmed that the individual was transported for medical treatment following the incident. While details about the man’s condition remain limited, organizers of Burning Man stated that patient confidentiality prevents them from sharing further updates.

In response, the Burning Man Project released a safety statement urging attendees to exercise caution while handling powered equipment during wet conditions: Keep all cables, plugs, and generators dry and covered. Elevate connections and seal them with electrical tape. Never run a generator or powered gear sitting in water.

The festival temporarily closed its gates Tuesday evening to discourage travel across the soaked playa, which can quickly trap vehicles in deep mud. Gates reopened by midday Wednesday after conditions improved, though standing water continued to affect movement across the site.

This week’s storms follow a series of extreme weather events at Burning Man, including dust storms strong enough to destroy structures and art installations, such as the “Black Cloud” piece and the infamous Orgy Dome. More than 1,100 theme camps have been impacted by the challenging conditions.

This is a developing story, and updates will follow as more details become available.
