Human Remains Found Near Electric Forest Potentially Belong to Missing Kevin Graves
Authorities have identified human remains discovered near Rothbury, Michigan, as those of Kevin Graves, a 28-year-old man who vanished during the Electric Forest music festival in July 2018. The identification was made through dental record analysis conducted by forensic anthropologists at Western Michigan University, as announced by the Michigan State Police.
The remains were found on December 31, 2024, on private property near the festival grounds by two hunters. Alongside the remains, personal items including Graves’ wallet, phone, and an Electric Forest festival wristband were recovered. These details strongly indicated the remains might belong to Graves, a belief later confirmed by authorities.

Graves was last seen on July 1, 2018, after an argument with his girlfriend during the festival. Despite extensive searches of the Double JJ Resort, the property where Electric Forest is hosted, and surrounding areas, no trace of him was found at the time. In the years following, Graves’ family remained committed to finding him, attending the festival annually to distribute flyers and raise awareness. In 2023, a billboard featuring his photo and a plea for information was placed near the festival site.
While police have confirmed the identity of the remains, the cause of death is yet to be determined. Initial statements suggest there are “no indications of foul play.” Investigators will work to piece together how Graves ended up in the location where his remains were discovered and the circumstances leading to his death. The investigation is being conducted in collaboration with Western Michigan University’s Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine.
For Kevin Graves’ family, this development brings an end to years of uncertainty but leaves unanswered questions about the events surrounding his disappearance. “If there is a confirmation that it is indeed [Kevin Graves], we will begin to work on further information to determine how he ended up there and the manner and cause of death,” said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard.

This tragic case underscores the enduring pain of unresolved disappearances and the ongoing efforts by families and law enforcement to bring closure. Further updates on the investigation, including the determination of the cause of death, are expected in the coming months.
