Felipe, the Bulgarian Resonating Across California, Brings Dubby Deep House with ‘Solo’ on Groove-ism

The Bulgarian rising talent Felipe has been locked in on his milky house productions that have been resonating with underground crowds and DJs alike in his hometown of San Francisco. Following his debut at Monarch, Felipe has continued to build momentum along the California coast with a hush-toned, vibe-driven release perfect for a foggy tunnel rave, ‘Solo’, via the Los Angeles-based imprint, Groove-ism. On the release, Felipe shares insight into his sound design and artistic direction:

“With ‘Solo,’ I really wanted to push myself into some new sonic territory, venturing beyond the typical deep house palette. I was aiming for something more abstract and textural. The bassline, which is a core element of the track, actually comes from a VST plugin called ‘The Prince’ by Cradle, which really helped me dial in that unusual sound.

I’ve always been heavily influenced by the dubby deep house sounds that emerged between 2005 and 2013. So, in a way, ‘Solo’ is my homage to that era, but with a forward-thinking twist. I wanted to capture that vibe while also injecting my own evolving sound. I focused on creating a sonic landscape that feels both familiar and fresh, with layers that reveal themselves upon repeated listens. Hopefully listeners will hear that blend of old and new, and it’ll pique their curiosity to explore more of my releases.”

Infusing Eastern European sensibilities with the pulsating rhythms of Western dance music, Felipe is gaining recognition for his electrifying, bass-driven grooves and a sonically immersive energy that drives each production. His evolving, idiosyncratic style has landed on labels such as G-Mafia Records, Whoyostro, House of Cake, and of course, Dad Bod Records.

Felipe has recently garnered support from Francis Mercier’s Deep Root Tribe out of New York, as well as tastemakers like Casmir from AM Radio LA. Step into the full scope of his sound through a discography featuring enveloping, atmospheric remixes of Faithless, Skrillex, Armand Van Helden, and The Cure.

On a broader note, Groove-ism’s recent collaboration with Global Dance Electronic for a Nightfunk event, alongside the release of Felipe’s ‘Solo’, underscores the label’s instinct for spotlighting must-see talent.
