Effin Targets the Soul with Upcoming Concept Album "Heartbeats"
Nashville-based producer Effin has never been one to follow the standard dubstep blueprint. Known for his obsession with vintage aesthetics and crate-digging textures, he is now preparing to drop his most ambitious project yet. His new album, Heartbeats, is scheduled for release on October 8, 2026.
Following the momentum of 2023’s Cheap Thrills and 2025’s Daydreams, Effin is pivoting from pure sonic world-building to a more vulnerable, conceptual exploration of love and nostalgia. The 12-track record serves as a sonic collage, blending fragments of 1950s film dialogue, jazz flutes, and warped vocal textures into a modern bass music framework.

A Deep Dive into Archival Sampling
The DNA of Heartbeats lies in Effin’s technical approach to sampling. Rather than relying on standard sample packs, he spent the last year digging through YouTube rabbit holes, forgotten live recordings, and records from the mid-20th century. One recurring motif throughout the album includes dialogue from a 1950s film about "Mole People," while other tracks feature hocketing techniques inspired by Sly Stone.

Musical inspirations for the project are remarkably diverse, ranging from the Motown era and Johnny Mathis to the gritty 90s hip-hop production of DJ Premier. Even the cooperative video game It Takes Two and the French short film The Red Balloon served as creative touchstones during the writing process.
“My songs and albums are very thematic in nature,” Effin explained. “Daydreams was me proving to myself I could write a concept album—and Heartbeats was me going all in on a theme: love.”
Connecting the Community

While the production is intricate, the heart of the album is rooted in Effin’s growing connection with his fans. Between massive festival sets at Bonnaroo, Electric Forest, and Lost Lands, he has been cultivating a tight-knit community in his home base of Nashville through his "Sunday Soirée" events.
“I got to come home week after week from shows, meeting people and hearing about their experience with my music,” Effin said. “I tried to convert the love they showed me into the music for this new album.”
The album’s closing moments pay homage to Nashville’s musical history with a replay inspired by The Anita Kerr Singers, the legendary vocal group that defined the "Nashville Sound" in the 50s and 60s. It’s a full-circle moment for a producer who has successfully bridged the gap between old-school songwriting and heavy-hitting electronic production.
