Sara Landry’s Company Sues Former Management Over Hekate Records and Trademark Rights

The hard techno star's company alleges her former managers sought 50% of her music and record label as a separate legal dispute continues in the UK.

Sara Landry's company has filed a federal lawsuit against companies linked to her former management, The Night Department, alleging unauthorized use of her name and Hekate Records trademarks following the end of their professional relationship. Filed on October 6, 2026, in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, the complaint was brought by Landry IP LLC against Night Night Ltd and affiliated company Prepare to Flash Ltd.

The lawsuit adds another chapter to an ongoing dispute over the hard techno star's music rights, independent label and former management agreement. Landry worked with The Night Department from 2023 until their professional relationship ended in 2025.

One of the most significant allegations involves ownership. According to the complaint, her former management sought a 50% ownership interest in her music and another 50% in Hekate Records, allegedly without appropriate compensation. Landry's company argues that these efforts conflicted with her intention to retain ownership of her recordings and label. The filing does not establish that the defendants ever acquired those interests.

The US lawsuit also claims that her former representatives continued using Sara Landry and Hekate Records trademarks after the split, including in music distribution activities and the promotion of management services. According to the complaint, this allegedly created the misleading impression that the companies remained authorized to represent the artist and her label.

Another allegation concerns Hekate Records' distribution operations. Landry IP claims that Prepare to Flash refused to authorize the transfer of the label's account with music distributor Believe when her representatives attempted to regain control. The complaint also raises concerns about the former management's handling of touring operations and label administration.

However, the legal battle goes both ways. In July 2026, The Night Department filed a separate lawsuit in the UK, arguing that Landry lacked sufficient grounds to terminate their management agreement. The company maintains that the disputed ownership provisions had been transparently disclosed, while Landry contests that position and has filed counterclaims alleging conduct that justified ending their partnership.

In a statement regarding the dispute, Landry emphasized the importance of artists protecting their creative and professional independence. "Ownership and artists' rights are deeply important to me," she stated, expressing her commitment to advocating for musicians' control over their work and careers.

The legal developments come as Landry prepares to release her second studio album, Divine Intervention, on October 16, 2026, through Hekate Records. Following her departure from The Night Department, the artist also entered a new management arrangement involving Alicia Karlin's ASK Management & Advisory and The Circuit Group.

Both legal proceedings remain unresolved, and the allegations have not been established by a court. Beyond the dispute itself, the case raises broader questions about artist ownership, intellectual property and the control musicians maintain over their names, recordings and independent labels when professional relationships come to an end.
