Pope Endorses DJ Set by Padre Guilherme for Archbishop’s 75th Birthday, Sparking Global Debate

A full-scale electronic music event outside St. Elizabeth Cathedral in Košice, Slovakia, has ignited global discussion after receiving the official endorsement of Pope Leo XIV. The celebration, held on November 8, 2025, featured Padre Guilherme Peixoto, the Catholic priest known worldwide for merging his vocation with a full-fledged DJ career.

What began as a tribute to honor the 75th birthday of Archbishop Bernard Bober quickly became a cultural flashpoint. The event delivered a festival-level production with lasers, projection mapping, a packed square, and a dance-driven set by Padre Guilherme — a collision of Catholic tradition and rave culture that instantly went viral.

Supporters praised the Church’s bold effort to connect with younger generations by embracing modern forms of expression. Critics, however, condemned the fusion as irreverent, calling it inappropriate for sacred spaces. But the conversation escalated even further when the Vatican itself appeared onscreen.

Mid-set, a large LED wall behind the decks displayed a recorded greeting from Pope Leo XIV, who offered his blessing and addressed the crowd directly. Known for his progressive approach, the Pope celebrated the gathering and encouraged attendees to be “witnesses of communion, builders of bridges, and sowers of trust.”

The message, already part of Padre Guilherme’s single “Dear Young People,” solidified the Vatican’s endorsement and propelled the moment into international headlines.

While Pope Leo XIV did not attend the celebration in person, his public support has made this one of the most talked-about intersections of faith, modern culture, and electronic music in recent memory — a moment redefining how spiritual institutions engage with contemporary communities.
