Venture Deep into the ‘Thickets & Tangles’ upon Mayple’s New Halftime Release

Michigan-based producer Mayple (Jaemes Chouinard) presents ‘Thickets & Tangles,’ a halftime bass single that drifts you through a surreal atmosphere at 90 BPM for the Grand Alliance family and eventually leads us to learn about hybrid organoids.

“After finishing up a halftime collaboration with Yoko, I started brewing more and more of that style, and it led me to this tune!” says Mayple, going on to share more about his creative process “A large portion of my music making process consists of digging through samples, and diving into custom patches in my DAW. That process sometimes can feel like you’re searching through the brush, looking for something that catches your eye, which is exactly how this song came to be. Through the twisting Thickets and Tangles of my sample libraries, I ended up finding an element that led to the entirety of this track, so the title felt fitting to name it as so. I hope you enjoy this one as much as I do!”

The song’s intricate sound design sets the perfect tone for Vol. 2: MAIORA, Grand Alliance Music’s compilation series that will be fully released by the end of the month.

Mayple was born in Montreal but now in Marquette, Michigan he has established himself in the freeform bass community through standout sets and releases on lables such as Aspire Higher, True to the Sound, and No Hype Music. Fans of Crawdad Snipervand Eastwood Red will find familiar territory in this atmospheric, bouncy, and energetic production.

Mayple has recently performed at Big Fam 2024, opened for ATYYA in Denver, premiered a track with Electric Hawk, played direct support for Thought Process and Artifakts. Here check out Yoko with new ‘Loco’ that is dark and energetic, and their collaboration together, ‘Organoid Hybrid’.

With multiple EPs and originals already released, and support slots for artists like Ternion Sound, Mayple continues to deliver it just the way we like it. Before you go on your way, pick up his free bootleg of Of The Trees’ ‘Spanish Moss’ with studio mate Yewz.

If you too were wondering what are “Organoid Hybrids’ is, here is what we found out about what is a hybrid organoid and why they are important. Most interestingly we discovered how they help study complex interactions within the body, like the gut-brain connection.

What is a hybrid organoid?  Hybrid organoids are miniature, lab-grown models of human organs that combine multiple cell types or different tissue structures to better mimic real organ function. They are created using stem cells and are often used in medical research, drug testing, and disease modeling.

How Hybrid Organoids Work

  1. Organoids are tiny, 3D structures grown from stem cells that self-organize to resemble specific organs (e.g., brain, liver, intestine).
  2. Hybrid organoids take this a step further by combining different cell types, organoids, or synthetic elements to create more complex and functional models.

Why Are Hybrid Organoids Important?

  • Better Disease Models: They more accurately simulate how organs work in the body.
  • Advanced Drug Testing: Hybrid organoids can test how different tissues interact with drugs.
  • Studying Complex Interactions: Some hybrid organoids combine neurons and muscle cells to study movement disorders, or gut and brain cells to study the gut-brain connection.
