Spotify Launches ‘Mix’ Tool, Turning Playlists Into DJ-Style Sets

Spotify just gave Premium users a serious upgrade: the ability to add custom transitions between songs with its brand-new tool, Mix. The feature, now in beta, lets you transform a regular playlist into a seamless DJ-style journey — whether it’s for a house party, a sweaty gym session, or a solo road trip.

Through the new “Mix” button on playlists, users can instantly choose Auto blends or craft transitions manually using presets like Fade, Rise, or Blend. You also get full control over transit zones with volume, EQ, and effects tweaks, plus visual aids like waveforms and beat maps to line everything up. Real-time BPM and key detection help lock smooth transitions across genres, from house to techno to ambient.

The toggle makes it easy to switch back to standard playback at any time, and yes — you can even collaborate on mixed playlists with friends, sharing your creations.

Compared to Apple Music’s AutoMix, Spotify’s Mix goes further by offering both automation and manual customization, removing the need for third-party DJ apps. With nearly 9 billion playlists already on the platform, this move pushes Spotify deeper into the world of personalization and performance — bringing DJ-level flow to everyday streaming.
