Spotify Donates $150,000 to Trump’s Inauguration Ceremony

Music streaming giant Spotify has come under scrutiny after it was revealed they donated $150,000 to the inauguration ceremony for President Donald Trump’s second term. The news, initially reported by Sweden’s Dagens Nyheter, highlighted Spotify’s financial involvement in what has been described as one of the most expensive inaugurations in US history.

In addition to the donation, Spotify hosted a pre-inauguration brunch the day before the ceremony, celebrating “the power of podcasts in this election.” High-profile podcasters affiliated with Spotify, such as Joe Rogan, Ben Shapiro, and Tim Pool, were among the attendees. The event served to recognize the influence of podcasts in shaping political discourse during the election.

Spotify has faced criticism in the past for controversies involving layoffs, royalty issues, and allegations of “ghost artists” in playlists. This donation comes as the company continues to position itself as a major player in the political and cultural landscape.

Spotify’s contribution aligns with similar donations from its competitors, Apple and Amazon, who each contributed $1 million to the inauguration. Combined, the three companies dominate over 55% of global music streaming, making their involvement in high-profile political events a notable industry trend.

Trump’s second inauguration has been rumored to be the most expensive in US history, with fundraisers targeting $200 million to cover the costs. For comparison, Trump’s first inauguration in 2017 raised $90 million, already surpassing previous administrations.
