John Summit and Dom Dolla’s Pre-Super Bowl Surprise Bourbon Street DJ Set Cut Short by Police

A surprise pop-up DJ set by John Summit and Dom Dolla on New Orleans’ Bourbon Street was cut short by local police due to security concerns. The spontaneous pre-Super Bowl LIX event, sponsored by Don Julio Tequila, was meant to be a high-energy celebration but ended abruptly after just 30 minutes.

Word of the performance quickly spread through social media, drawing an unexpectedly massive crowd that transformed the already lively French Quarter into a full-blown daytime rave. Among those spotted at the event was Apple CEO Tim Cook, who joined the DJs on stage. Summit and Dolla, who frequently perform together under their Everything Always alias, had set the stage for what could have been an unforgettable street party.

Despite reports that Don Julio Tequila had obtained the necessary permits and implemented security measures, the overwhelming turnout led the New Orleans Police Department to intervene. In a video shared by Dolla, an officer can be heard telling the DJs to “shut it down.”

“For anybody concerned: Don Julio had approval from the city, safety and security measures were in place,” Dolla clarified on social media. “The issue was the party got too big and we had to end it early.”

The shutdown highlights the challenges of managing large-scale viral events in public spaces, especially during major sporting events. Neither the New Orleans Police Department nor Don Julio have issued official statements at the time of reporting, though the latter acknowledged the incident on Instagram, saying it had “shut down” Bourbon Street.

With heightened security measures in place leading up to Super Bowl LIX, thousands of officers were deployed to ensure public safety. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry had also issued an emergency order to create a security zone around Bourbon Street, implementing bag searches at various checkpoints.
