Ibiza Sees Historic Ecstasy Drug Bust: Largest in Spain’s History

Ibiza has become the backdrop for Spain’s largest drug seizure ever, as the Guardia Civil confiscated an estimated €25 million worth of drugs, including over 1 million ecstasy pills. Authorities are calling it “the biggest ecstasy bust in Spanish history.”

Alejandro Hernández, the chief colonel of the Guardia Civil in the Balearic Islands, described the operation as a significant achievement, with a total of 1,071,327 ecstasy tablets seized. He remarked on the sheer scale of the operation and the challenges involved in securing such a large amount of drugs.

Nine individuals were arrested in connection with the operation across Malaga and Ibiza. These suspects are believed to be members of one of Spain’s major criminal networks involved in the distribution of synthetic drugs. In addition to the ecstasy tablets, the raid led to the confiscation of over 700 kilograms of other drugs, including ketamine, pink cocaine, hashish, MDMA, and cannabis.

This recent bust follows another massive drug operation in Ibiza in 2022, which resulted in the seizure of 850,000 ecstasy pills. However, due to a judicial error, those suspects were released. This time, Hernández hopes the evidence will ensure they are prosecuted and face justice in court.
