Deezer Reveals 10,000 AI-Generated Tracks Are Uploaded Daily

Streaming platform Deezer has revealed that around 10,000 fully AI-generated tracks are uploaded to its platform every day, accounting for 10% of all new music submissions. This announcement comes as Deezer implements new tools to detect AI-generated content and increase transparency for listeners and artists.

Deezer’s proprietary AI music detection tool can identify tracks created using generative AI models such as Suno and Udio, with plans to expand detection capabilities as new examples emerge. The streaming service has also applied for two patents for its AI detection technology, aiming to differentiate human-made content from fully AI-generated music.

The company is working toward implementing an AI tagging system, ensuring listeners are informed when tracks are generated by artificial intelligence. Another key focus is identifying deepfake vocals, a controversial area where AI-generated voices mimic established artists without consent.

“As artificial intelligence continues to increasingly disrupt the music ecosystem, with a growing amount of AI content flooding streaming platforms like Deezer, we are proud to have developed a cutting-edge tool that will increase transparency for creators and fans alike,” said Deezer CEO Alexis Lanternier in a press statement. “Generative AI has the potential to positively impact music creation and consumption, but its use must be guided by responsibility and care in order to safeguard the rights and revenues of artists and songwriters. Going forward we aim to develop a tagging system for fully AI-generated content and exclude it from algorithmic and editorial recommendations.”

A 2024 AI strategy study by CISAC (the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers) reported that nearly €4 billion (approximately 25% of artists’ revenue) could be at risk by 2028 due to the increasing presence of AI-generated music.

Meanwhile, AI-powered music platforms continue to face legal challenges. Suno AI and Udio AI are currently being sued by Sony, Universal, and Warner Music Group, with the labels alleging copyright infringement through the unauthorized use of licensed music in AI training datasets. If proven, damages could total $150,000 per infringement.

Concerns around AI manipulation in streaming services extend beyond Deezer. A December 2024 investigation by Harper’s Magazine alleged that Spotify was filling its most popular playlists with “ghost artists”—fake profiles generating streams without requiring royalty payouts to legitimate musicians.

With AI’s role in music creation growing rapidly, Deezer’s efforts highlight the ongoing battle between innovation and artist protection, a debate that will shape the future of the music industry.
