Study Shows 80% of Clubbers Experience Ringing Ears After a Night Out

A new study from the Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID) is putting the spotlight on a serious issue in nightlife culture: hearing damage. According to the survey, 80% of nightclub-goers report ringing in their ears (temporary tinnitus) after a night out. Out of 2,000 people aged 18 to 28, 58% also said they had experienced hearing loss, tinnitus, or both after clubs, festivals, or concerts.

The worrying part? While three out of four young people know the risks of permanent hearing damage, more than a third admitted they won’t use ear protection this year.

An international study backed this up, showing 73% of regular clubbers deal with permanent hearing symptoms, from tinnitus to sound sensitivity. Yet only 32% use earplugs, 38% take breaks, and just 13% had a hearing test in the past year.

The numbers highlight a major gap between awareness and action. The nightlife scene delivers unforgettable moments, but the long-term risks are real. Experts argue that venues and promoters should push safe-listening practices — from offering free earplugs to lowering sound levels and encouraging cool-down breaks. Because protecting your hearing doesn’t have to kill the vibe.
