Bass n Babes, LA’s hottest queer and femme bass music collective, is taking its brand to the next level with the launch of its music label and the release of its first compilation album! The collective is well known for its immersive events, community organizing, and advocacy with a focus on gender diversity in the industry. Now, Bass n Babes wants you to get ready for a new world of bass music, because Bass n Babes Vol. I is out now on all streaming platforms!
The compilation, titled Bass n Babes Vol. I, marks the launch of Bass n Babes Records, a proudly independent record label with the mission of bridging the gap between the LGBTQ and bass music communities. Bass n Babes Records, much like its namesake collective, exists to provide a platform for unique expressions of feminine and LGBTQ art. Bass n Babes is a vibrant tapestry of unity, acceptance, and euphoria that champions the untapped feminine and queer talent of the bass music scene. The collective puts an emphasis on connection, community, and underground sound and culture.
Bass n Babes Vol. I is an eleven-track, multi-genre compilation embodying various sounds of bass music including dubstep, 140/deep dub, drum & bass, experimental bass, trap, breaks, and more. The compilation showcases women and LGBTQ artists who are rising in the bass music scenes of Los Angeles, Denver, Vancouver, and San Diego. The featured artists include: HerShe, Kurei, NotLö, So Sus, Auracle, Baby Kush, Bunny G, farley., Lex Looper, nomi, Roses Grimoire, Shortcvke, tess iconic, and VIOLET. Read on for a sneak peak into the songs and artists behind the compilation.
Baby Kush, the founder of Bass n Babes, kicks off the compilation with a haunting dubstep track “Medusa,” inspired by the misunderstood character from Greek mythology. While historically viewed as a monster, Medusa has evolved to symbolize female empowerment and represent the struggle against patriarchal oppression. Rooted in the belief that diversity fuels creativity, Baby Kush pushes the boundaries of what the bass scene can be—welcoming, barrier-breaking, and deeply connected. With her vision, music, and community-driven spirit, Baby Kush is not just shaping sounds—she’s shaping the future of bass music.
Shortcvke’s “Dryad” is similarly inspired by Greek mythology and a connection with nature. Dryad is a heavy-hitting deep dubstep track with uniquely curated sound design and percussion. This track demonstrates Shortcvke’s influences in 140, experimental bass, hip hop and other genres as she weaves dark undertones with intricate rhythms that entrap listeners into a trance-induced journey.
Auracle transports the listener to a new dimension with her track “Just Breathe,” showcasing dreamy vocals, intricate soundscapes and a gritty, seductive bassline. With recent releases on Deadbeats and Odyzey, Auracle continues to push the boundaries of sound with this new track that features her ethereal fairy bass sound. Auracle seeks to discover her purpose both within and beyond the music scene, aspiring to give back to the community that has nurtured her artistry and empower other women and LGBTQ+ artists. She stands firm in her commitment to supporting emerging talent and shaping the future of music.
So Sus, a rising force in experimental bass music, hits us hard with “Singularity,” an energetic track primed for the dance floor. With recent remixes for Ahee and SoDown, as well as releases on notable labels including DeadBeats, Subsidia, and MorFlo, So Sus has carved out a signature sound that’s as innovative as it is unforgettable.
Power duo HerShe and Kurei pull from the sounds of both bass and hip-hop for their track, “icy”, a sexy, queer banger for the summer that showcases their charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent. Kurei specializes in melodic dance music with an ethereal fairy-like vibe essence, capturing the essence of the divine feminine with alluring melodies and enchanting atmospheres. Renowned beatboxing champion HerShe incorporates her voice into her music in unique ways and uses her platform as a way to spread positive social messages, especially to other aspiring female and LGBTQ+ musicians.
Roses Grimoire gives us a taste of organized chaos and a look inside her mind with her track, “U THOUGHT.” As chaotic as it is catchy, “U THOUGHT” transforms feminine anger into a track that hooks the listener and then pulls them into madness. Inspired by artists who craft their own universes to tell their stories, Rose is actively building her own — blending genres, pushing boundaries, and creating music that empowers others to express themselves freely and believe in their potential. Her vision is rooted in cultivating a community where individuality, creativity, and fearless self-expression thrive.
Long Beach-based artist farley. brings us a track that is dripping with seduction. “Power” balances enchanting vocals with a deep, heavy drop, and lyrics that empower you to break free from control and reclaim your strength. Known for her crunchy low-end bass, hypnotic grooves, and ethereal vocals, farley. fearlessly blends genres and pushes the boundaries of bass/trap music, creating a sound that is both intense and immersive.
VIOLET captivates us with an electrifying midtempo track with powerful beats and an immersive soundscape. She fully delivers on the title with her track, “Sensation;” expect to feel the music crawling over your skin and tickling your brain.
Lex Looper takes us on her journey of self-discovery with “Love Him”, a track which explores themes of gender transition, self-actualization, and acceptance. “Love Him” features a unique mix of UK Bass, Garage, and Deep Dubstep sound design, providing an epic soundscape that transforms from mysterious to joyous.
Bunny G introduces a new sound to the compilation with her breaks track, “Menace Beach.” The track features a strong arpeggiated lead and crisp percussion, giving you no choice but to bounce along with her. Blending breaks, UKG, and experimental bass with sexy melodies and heavy sound design, Bunny G’s sound brings both bounce and emotional depth to the dancefloor. She invites listeners into an intimate yet danceable sonic world, reflective of her seasoned songwriting, emotional honesty, and feminine perspective.
Triple threat NotLö, nomi and tess iconic join forces to create a timeless sapphic drum and bass anthem, “come over”. The impressive production features sexy vocals, a smooth saxophone lead, high-energy drops and a rumbling bassline. Drawing from her experience as a queer woman in electronic music, NotLö’s project has been described as amplifying inclusion, acceptance, tolerance, and love. Emphasizing low end bass with distorted grooves, NotLö takes listeners on a dark and ethereal dance music journey.
A rising star in the drum and bass world, nomi effortlessly blends their highly distinctive saxophone sound into this production. As a non-binary person, nomi’s musical mission is to engage the body as much as the mind, and to share this profound appreciation for feeling connected to one’s own body. tess iconic, previously known as miss tiddy, is a catholic school girl turned bisexual icon. She seamlessly fuses her sultry vocals and confident attitude to deliver a performance that ignites a fiery energy.
