Axwell Says Goodbye to Axtone Records After Nearly Two Decades

In a significant shift for the electronic music industry, Axwell has officially stepped down from his role as Director of the iconic Axtone Records and sold the label to Pophouse Entertainment. The deal, finalized on November 22, 2024, marks the end of an era for one of the most influential Progressive House labels in electronic music history.

Founded by Axwell, Axtone Records has been synonymous with the Progressive House sound, dominating the late 2000s and 2010s with a catalog that includes defining tracks such as ‘Tell Me Why,’ ‘Leave The World Behind,’ ‘In My Mind,’ and ‘All That Matters.’ The label became a platform for both emerging and established artists, shaping the sound of a generation and earning its place as a cornerstone of the EDM scene.

Despite its storied history, Axtone’s activity has slowed in recent years. This, combined with Pophouse Entertainment’s expansion into the electronic music sphere—already managing the catalogs of legends like Avicii, Kiss, and Swedish House Mafia—appears to have influenced Axwell’s decision to pass the torch.

According to the UK’s Companies House, Axwell’s departure as Director in November coincided with the sale of the label. Conni Yngve Jonsson, founder of EQT AB, was added as a significant stakeholder, and Parham Benisi was appointed as the new Director. While no official statement has been made regarding the label’s future direction, fans and industry insiders are eager to see what changes might come under Pophouse’s leadership.

As of now, Axtone’s future plans remain unclear. Will the label continue to focus on Progressive House? Will it expand its horizons under its new leadership? These are the questions buzzing among fans and industry professionals alike. For now, the electronic music community is left to reflect on the incredible legacy Axwell leaves behind while awaiting announcements about the label’s next chapter.
